Company Awards

Each year in mid-May we hold our Annual Awards and Celebration Display. On this evening the Boys are awarded with the badges they’ve been working towards throughout the pass year. It is also a time of reflection where we share with our Parents and Church members what the Boys have been up to. We share photos, stories and the type of activities we get up to.

Alongside the recognised national award scheme set out by the Boys’ Brigade, our Company has its own awards that are handed out on this special occasion. Whole Company Awards

The Freddie Brockfield Shield for Smartness on the Night –  in memory of our founding Captain, Fred Brockfield, the shield was presented to the company by Fred many years ago.  He believed it was important to carry on encouraging Boys to have self discipline in making themselves look presentable when wearing their BB uniforms, especially in keeping the bottom of their shoes clean! Each year a member of staff is chosen to inspect the Boys and pick one Boy who is smartly dressed at the Award & Celebration Display.

The Royal British Legion Shield for Sportsman of the Year – this shield was presented to the Company to highlight one or a group of Boys who have displayed a particular outstanding achievement in an area of sport. Past awardees include those who have set Battalion level records in swimming, have won multiple Battalion sporting events or have shown achievement in sports in their own personal time.

The Pat Doran Memorial Shield for the Most Improved Boy in the Company  – In memory of Mr Pat Doran, a father of two former members of the Company, his family presented the shield to recognise those Boys who have shown an absolute improvement in how they conduct themselves within the Company.

The Redford Memorial Shield for the Most Outstanding Dedication & Loyalty – Presented to the Company by the Redford family in memory of their paternal grandparents who were active and keen supporters of the Boys’ Brigade and its Christian values. This award is given out to members of staff or supporters of the Company who go above and beyond the call of duty and what is expected of them. The shield is handed out to recognise their high level of support and to show the Company’s gratitude with their loyalty and efforts.

The Packham Centenary Cup – Presented to the Company by the Packham family, this award is reserved for special recognition and is not always awarded yearly. This award is presented to its awardees for something extremely special that they have done in the life and service of our Company or for overcoming a great difficulty within their life and becoming a true example to the other Boys’ in the Company of what is means to be a member.

The Captain’s Award  – As the Company Commanding Officer, the Captain has the discretion, prerogative and honour to present a special award each year to a member of the Company for reasons they feel that needs to be recognised.
